The tour

Quick details:

Tour description:

In this walk through the broad avenues and beautiful parks of the European Quarter, we will discover the main institutions of the European Union. We will talk about their history, their role, the story of their presence in Brussels, as well as fun anecdotes about the never-stopping political game at play in Brussels. Some of the highlights of the tour include:

Schuman Roundabout – we will learn about the European Commission, the NBA of bureaucracy, in charge of drafting over 100k pages of legislation a year; and the Council of the European Union, where the countries that form the EU hash out their differences through delicate diplomacy and the occasional backdoor deal.

House of European History – located within the scenic Leopold Park, this museum tells the story of how Europeans went from bickering and battling each other for centuries to filling up mountains of paperwork over the correct size of vegetables.

European Parliament – 720 members representing more than 400 million voters, in 24 different languages. And you thought arranging your family holiday was complicated.

Place Luxembourg – the after-work meeting place for politicians, civil servants, lobbyists and journalists. Here, laws are negotiated, reports are leaked, and hangovers are born.

And more!

The tour will end near the European Parliament, a short walking distance from both Cinquantenaire Park and the historic center of Brussels.

The guide

Dani is a Spanish stand-up comedian, writer and improviser based in Brussels

This tour was born out of my passion for history, politics and comedy. I am a professional comedian and part of The Schuman Show, a Brussels-based political satire show. Before becoming a full-time comedian, I spent years working on EU affairs, and I remain in close contact with it by performing at company events all over Brussels.

I also spent over two years as a free walking tour guide in Madrid, and I love the unique opportunity to meet people from all over the world that tour guiding offers. You can read more about the idea behind this tour here.

I’m looking forward to show you around Brussels’ European Quarter!
